2 Red Dwarf 2 Psych 2 Indie Love #14

Yeaaah...don't mind the crazy title, I slightly wonder if my hyper mood is just my mind insanely rebounding from yesterdays breakdown, from one extreme to another...wheee... That and yesterday I slept from 6am to 6pm and I haven't slept since. <.<;;

Forward

I completely did not download 6 or so different word a day apps to give myself a fun array of words a day to use for WOTDS (Words of the Day Stories) >.>; Several of them being in a different language, but that makes it all the more fun! Plus, in celebration of my 14th post, because, 14 is the best number cause its twice as good as 7, but I still love 7 too, I wanted to try and use 14 words for today’s WOTDS. And, I am feeling a bit better today too, I have a solution for my problem and hopefully it works out, but until then, I refuse to stay upset. Screw that, I want to be in a good mood so I will! Remember it all starts with a positive mindset.
So to start, YAY! Guess what today is, other then being my 14th post!? It’s the first day of shooting in front of a live audience for Red Dwarf X! I wish I could be there, but I shall have to be patient and wait till September for it to air, BUT, I can be happy in the thought that they are filming as I type, maybe, I mean the tweets weren’t too long ago, so its likely still filming! And also, only 9 days till Christmas, which also means 9 days till the Doctor Who Christmas Special! And if you haven’t heard the upcoming season with be the end of Amy and Rory’s story, which is sad, I will miss you Amy! The new companion has not been picked yet, last I heard. I hope she is at least close to as awesome and beautiful as Amy is. I also heard River will be around for a while, and she has grown on me, so I don’t mind that.
These two months are going to crawl by as I wait for the second half of this season of Psych! It doesn’t help that the first episode of part two of this season is an Indiana Jones ep! That series and the Star Wars series, the originals of course, I watched countless times as a child! I grew up adoring those movies, and completely crushing on Indiana Jones and Princess Leia, also Han Solo! Those three were probably my first crushes! But yeah, so I am super excited to see what Psych does with Indiana Jones. Hmmm, now I want to go re-watch the three ordinals, not so happy with the fourth, I mean it was pretty funny, all the cracks about Jones being too old for this, but I don’t like the idea of Shia LaBeouf possibly taking over for Indie. Also not only is there the Indie episode, but Wayne Brady is on the list of guest stars for the second half! I love that guy, aside from Colin and Ryan, he is the best on “Who’s line is it anyways?” and also he has been on HIMYM several times.
So! Good times are ahead! Can’t wait! Red Dwarf X, Psych, Doctor Who, and wish me luck on finding a job. >.< I could use it. And I am having fun with WOTDS, so shoving my stress to the side, on to the story!

Note to those who maybe new readers, if you want to get to know Nekodra a little before reading a short story on her, the WOTDS Guide has a quip of her bio, so here is Link to the WOTDS Guide

By Nekodra K.D. LaCroix

Nekodra took a deep calming breath, her curl tipped bangs pulled back into a messy bundle of a bun, and clothed in a simple dark buttoned shirt and black yoga pants, rolled up slightly to keep their length from getting under her feet and her blue bag was still strapped to her hip, with is pineapple and ankh images contrasting with her dark clothing.
She sat out on a near flat rock about 4ft wide and 3 and a half feet long, which sat roughly 1 foot out of the water, and the rest of the 7 or so feet went down under the surface of the water in the middle of a small lake. The lake was only maybe 25 feet in diameter. The sounds of the waterfall behind her was soothing as she counted back from 10 to 0, slowly, calming herself into a deep and relaxing state of mediateness. Her forearms rested on her thighs, her thumb and middle fingers touching at the tips.
10 The leaves rustled in a short breeze that shivered the trees that completely surround and engulf this little hideaway, 9 and sun began to rapidly sink over the tree line, casting only a faint glow of light. 8 She faintly whispered, Oiche Mhaith, to the fading sun, as it finally disappeared, allowing the stars their past glory of shining brilliantly and vastly along the night sky with the utter lack of nearby lighting that current technology snatched away with a malus nature. 7 though her oculus were closed, she could easily picture the magnificence of the Milky Way above her, the image was calming, knowing that among all those billions of stars laying planets filled with life, and she one day hopes to step onto one of those planets and meet someone new. 6 Deep breaths, in and out, relaxing, calming, she thought, 5 and letting go of stress, of nosey thoughts, drifting away from earlier images. 4 Wiping the board clean, empty, with slow breaths, in and out. 3 in and out. 2 in and out. 1 deep inhale 0 slow exhale.
Eyes still closed, she moves to stand up, arms out stretched and her feet firmly cemented in place, solid and firm foundation, and imaging roots sinking into the rock and grounding her. With another deep inhale and slow exhale, Nekodra gathers herself, ready to foment, to grow and develop herself, her skills, her energies, her mind. Hearing nothing but the whisper of the wind and the waterfall, but not letting it distract her, merely there, existing in the background.
She brings her hands together, slowly, gathering herself, her energies and once her fingers from each hand barely brush each other, she snaps her hands away, in a bursting display; fire erupts from the space between and grows rapidly to fill the gap as the hands retreat from one another.
Just as suddenly she stops, hands held out wide, like she is holding the hands of fellow actors ready to take a bow after their act, but this act wasn’t over yet. Between her hands a beach ball sized bundle of flames, flicker, rotate, slowly, and controlled. Even and calm. In and out, deep and slow. The ball begins to shift, unfold, parts of it appear to abrade, and it takes the form of two horses and a carriage. In and out. The horses appear to stomp, inpatient, and with a flick and rise of one hand, the horses take off, upwards looking like Santa’s slay in the night. With that image in mind her other hand flicks and waves up, and ember rain float down like flickering orange snow. Pulling her hands closer together and a twist of her wrists, the carriage swirls into itself pulling the stomping horses with it, once again becoming a ball, smaller, compact. It shifts, becomes a pyramid, another shift, and it’s a cube. A flick of her hand and it begins to rotate, slow at first, and then picks up speed as she rotates a index finger. Then with a large sweeping motion it becomes a whip in her hand, then a snap of her other hand and it takes the shape of a sword. Letting go of it, it hovers vertically between her hands, which are close now, just barely brushing along the sword. She snaps her hands a little farther apart and it divides, becoming three, another short snap and there are 5, one more snap and it becomes 7. Turning her hands palm up, the swords become horizontal, then pulling one hand down and the other up, the numbers double to 14, two stacks of 7 swords, hovering in front of her. Flickering, calm and controlled, giving a warm soft glow in the night.
Suddenly but gently two strong arms wrap around her and she feels the body behind her, tall but leaning down and a head with long hair that starts to tickle her cheek, rests in her shoulder. “It’s just me by your side, sorry to bother you my love, but someone is here to see you.” His voice soft, barely a whisper, remembering the last time he interrupted with a little too loud of a voice, which snapped her concentration too quickly and she nearly set half the woods on fire and him as well. Not that the fire could kill him, but with quick ease and centuries of experience, his hand snapped up to douse with ice her flames before they went too far, which splashed into the water, cracking and sizzling, saving the trees from her shocked burst of flames.
Not letting the sudden intrusion break her concentration, Nekodra holds her breath, holds her calm clear mind, the swords waver slightly almost breaking shape, but stay put, they hold. With a slow exhale, the swords pulled in half, as she rubbed the tips of her fingers from her thumb down the curve to the other side of her palm, pulling the flames into her now enclosed hands. Releasing her breath slowly, she images the roots she had placed into the rock slowly retreat into her bare feet as she takes another deep breath. Exhaling again, she opened her eyes slowly, and turned around never breaking his hug.
“I was about to have target practice with swords, it was going to be dangerous for the nearby trees and fun.” She pouting for a second and broke into a mischievous grin.
“I am sorry; he was insisting it had to be right now.” He chuckled and kissed her forehead.

Afterword
Yes! Success of 14 words of the day and all bundled into one story! Though I wasn’t sure what the plural of oculus is…so just pretend its plural. Heh…
I am pretty sure I mentioned that Nekodra loves to mediate and train, and here is an example. She has spent years honing her fire skills and has impressive results, but she still can make mistakes if she isn’t careful, or if someone startles her when she is that deeply meditating and concentrating.
1,092 words of fun! Yay! Like how I worked in 7 and 14? >.> Hell ya! wOOt! I win. *throws up hands triumphantly*
Anyways, that was really fun, and just for those who maybe curious. I have worked on ‘To Hell with it’ but it was mostly the ending I worked on, which means I don’t have a middle to post as part 2, sorry, but I am working on it! I promise!
So, with that done, I am going to watch some Psych, then more Red Dwarf, then onto a Magic the Gather type 2 tournament at a local and laid back comic shop, with some fun friends for some good ol’ nerdy fun! Have a good Night!

The Side notes:

-Follow me on Twitter, because I will tweet every time I post on my blog and I will post a link.  Nekodra's Twitter and remember Sharing is Caring, retweet to your friends if they might enjoy this.
-Have fun and toss me writing prompt, I would love the practice. I will credit you for tossing the prompt when I post the resulting story.
-If you have never seen Psych, and you love comedies or crime shows, I highly recommend it! You will laugh so much. Psych Wednesday nights, but currently they are on a mid-season break and will return on Leap year, Feb. 29th 2012
-Also if you have never seen Red Dwarf it’s a great British Sci-fi comedy, and a new season after many years will air September 2012 for Red Dwarf X. So excited they are currently filming, can’t wait!
        - Please remember feedback, I can’t grow as a writer from silence.
-Also remember unless stated otherwise, these stories and drawings belong to me, I wrote/drew them, please respect that.

Sci-fi Loving Giddyness

Forward:

There will be a short story, but first I want to talk. I feel giddy and I want to talk about it. As per my morning routine, when I can't force myself to fall back asleep and dream some more, I begrudgingly stretch and get up, and I check twitter in hopes of awesome Psych things, though now  follow a lot of people, my twitter account which started as a means to stalk Psych information, now involves a lot of things that are semi-interesting, but off topic, I check twitter, email, which email involves the crossing of fingers for updates on Psych Fanfics, then facebook if I am too absorbed into the world of Fanfiction updates, and when I remember I check Dvice app and Blaster app, note this checking has all been on my iPhone who is named Ivianna, but thats neither here or there, and today I haven't look at blaster yet because of awesome-ness I read on Divce.

Days like today, make me all giddy, and not just because of an awesome Shules fanfiction that was updated with TWO chapters, but two articles I read on Dvice, make a sci-fi lover like me, heart to flutter with giddiness. Scientists maybe confirm latest warm, wet, habitable exoplanet [ <-- link to the article] Whenever I stumble across and read these 'falling into the goldilock zone' articles, makes the Sci-fi nerd in me, who's biggest dream is of colonizing a planet in my life time, heart skip a beat in guarded hope. I know finding Earth like planets doesn't me we will colonize it anytime soon. I know this, and it makes me so sad, if I was rich, or if I had a job period, but it sorta has to be a decent job to do this, but if I ever become insanely rich, by some crazy luck, you can bet your life NASA would get so much of my money, because if it comes down to getting needless expensive things or being able to give NASA the founds they need to research and make a ship that can travel hundreds of light-years, I am going to spend my money on NASA. Screw having pointless things if I can help fund something so-Amazing. I would only leave myself enough to be comfy which wouldn't take much and the ability to travel. Because I honest to the gods, I want to one day step into another planet.

But also, mentions of planets like this make me giddy not just in the hopes of seeing that planet with my own eyes, but of life on other planets. I have been saying, or at least believing, that there is no way in Hell, we are the only living creatures in this insanely vast and practically endless universe. For one, look at the diversity in the living creatures so far on Earth alone, look how different not only in how we look, we evolved, but in the complexity of how we interact and fit together, and really when it comes down to it, one little difference could have vastly changed our outcome, and statistically with how large the universe is, how close minded and egocentric can we, as a race, be to think we are the only ones with a planet housing life? On the grand scheme of things, thinking we are alone in this vastness is the silly and insane thought and belief. To quote myself  "-So how can us, humans, say where life can and can’t exist, when we haven’t traveled passed our moon? That’s like stepping out onto your porch or looking out a window and saying California can’t have life, I can’t see it from here." - Nekodra K.D LaCroix, from a short essay of mine. Side note: I live in Washington. Lovely rainy Washington, that's not sarcastic, I am in heaven on a stormy rainy day and in grump-ville when the sun pokes its head out, ask anyone who knows me in person. But Washington where there are lots of mountains and no matter how tall of a porch I build, I don't think I can ever spot California from here. lol. I wrote that in an essay for that Biology/English class I took last year.

So here is some insight into my belief system, call me crazy if you want, but everyone has a right to believe their own 'religion', and despite how much I joke about being insane and Queen of LaLaLand, I am pretty sure I am actually mostly sane, but really everyone has some small level of craziness in them and really its only bad if your a danger to yourself or others; moderation, everything in moderation, we are what is it, 75% made of water (googled it, huh 65% less that I recall, oh well) and too much water will kill you.

So some insight into my belief system, and I think to put a name to it, is: I am polytheistic, or also Spiritual, as a loose term I believe in The Force, more meaning I believe there are energies in the world and your beliefs, your thoughts, wishes, can influence them, I think there is the term Noetic Science, to use a term that doesn't make me look like a crazy Stars Wars fanatic. What is Neotic Science - I googled a link in case you where curious So to put in simply, how you feel, what you wish, dream, believe, influences those around you, in effects your little bubble of a world, more then you realize. Also, sort of think of it like Karma. Think of it like this, if your negative and believe negative things will happen, they do, they will, because you so strongly believe it will, that's why people may say or tell you, if you want things to get better, if you want to stop your bad luck, it starts will a positive attitude, and believe me I know how hard it is to switch from a negative perspective to a more positive. There is always kernel of truth, to things, that's where praying comes from, that's why people ask you to wish good luck for things, that's why when someone is in the hospital or just a little sick, you wish them good health. I hope that made sense....

I believe that there isn't just one universe, I believe in parallel realms and other dimensions. I also believe that the gods not only that earth believes is and yes all gods from all religions here on earth, but also those of aliens, all exist somewhere in the vastness of time and space. I believe that all Gods exist, maybe not in the way they are idealized, but they are someone. Hmm, saying time and space, does make me sound a little crazy, but its really hard for me to feel like I am getting the idea across on just how large, vast, and complex I feel the universe is. Here is another quote of mine, in which I think sums it up nicely how large the universe is and just how small our galaxy, yes our Milky Way Galaxy is in the scheme of it, "Our Milky Way Galaxy is but an atom of dust in an endless mansion, that in all of existence, has never been dusted." -Nekodra K.D. LaCroix

Does that paint the picture for you? Does that show how infinity small we are in the abstract craziness that is the universe? There is so much out there to explore, and it makes me sad to think that in my life time, I likely will never even get a chance to step out onto just one other planet. Just one. I would love to travel the universe, if only we could, but at this point in time, I fear I won't get a chance to see one with my own eyes.

As I said, this is all just an insight to what I believe in, I am in no way saying this means everyone HAS to believe this too. No, that silly. That's super silly, readers, don't think that. Believe what you believe, just give me the same courtesy and don't ask me to change what I believe. How fun would the world be, if everyone was the same? Pfft, very boring if you ask me. This world is so diverse, so many different things! That makes it fun. No keep what you believe strongly in your heart and dreams, cherish them, covet it, I think religion and belief is very personal and it shapes who you are, I don't think it something you should force onto another. Its something that's far too personal for that. I just wanted to talk about the giddiness I feel as scientist spot more and more planets that are similar to our own. Which led to some insight on what I cherish.

Here is today's short story, which is variation of yesterday's A Dance of Flames, and from a different perspective, written also a bit differently, and not the same preforamace, but a similar one:

 They Danced
By Nekodra K.D. LaCroix

They danced, flickering with a life of their own. The soft glow reflecting in the eyes of those watchers as it transformed from the flaming grass rustling in the non-existing breeze to a tree standing tall to the left of the performer. The leaves rustled as the grass had done before it, some lightly falling to the ground and burning out. There was a silent pause as all eyes watched in curiosity, in wonder of what would happen. A few gasped and many fell more silent as a tiger appeared from behind the tree. It crackles and appeared to growl, walking forward to stare in quiet wonder at all who watched. The crackling and popping tiger sat before the tree and watched, waiting. Next to appear from behind the tree was a small and silent bunny, hoping and leaping a fatal path in front of the tiger. Lunging forward, that tiger landed on top of that small glow of a bunny. The combination of the two creating a large but controlled balled blast of flames that puffed up into the air forming itself into a serpent dragon. The serpent slithered and glided through the air as though it were water. Up and down, side to side and landed itself onto a branch of the tree. Wrapped around the branch, it appeared to hiss and stick out its long flicking tongue at the attendance before it.
The performer, who was standing just behind the tree, softly waving her hands to and fro, movements that are only to be understood by the flames that could not see her but breathed and lived a life of its own,.  She herself seeming to glow and move much like the flickering and dancing flames she produced. With a single motion, the serpent swirled up along with the tree as though the plug in the tub had been pulled out. In one quick movement, the tree and the serpent became a large pulsing egg.  The egg floated and bobbed above the performer, hovering and waiting. Then shrinking with every pulse, ever so slowly till it was the size of an ostrich egg. A thick and large flickering leaf appeared under the egg causing the egg to roll down and off the edge to land on another flickering crackling leaf. Repeating the process over and over, till it land safe and softly on the ground in a glowing puff of embers.
Waiting, the audience wondered in awe. Suddenly with a loud crackling, members in the stands jumped, as the flames swirled up from where the egg once was, higher and higher, thrashing and dancing. Upwards, like a tornado it danced around the performer. Then, she was gone. The flames had danced in front of her and when it moved from before the spot she once stood, she was no longer there. The attendance whispered, and gasped. Suddenly it exploded, towards the audience, but stop as sudden as it had began and was sucked back. When the haze of the flames had calmed, there she was sitting upon the flames of a large bat, and with crackling and popping of the dancing flames, they flew off stage with a bang, disappearing, but leaving petals dancing and flickering to the ground as the only evidence that they had been there.

A Dance of Flames

Quick side note: if you stumbled here about the post to any and all who work on
Psych. It’s ‘A Big Thank You’

I just want to say something to keep in mind as you read my short stories. I am
posting here because I want to grow as a writer and I can't evolve with silence. Keep in
mind, I don't care if your comment says you hate it as long as you give a valid and
constructive explanation of what you disliked about it. While positive feedback is
welcomed and loved, often times positive feedback is left as an 'I loved it' or 'that was
awesome', nothing about why, and while it does feel nice, and is encouraging. Often
times the negative feedback is what you level up from the most, so long as it explains
what was bad. So please, keep that in mind as you read my stories, I am here to grow
as a writer. I know my stuff is amateur and try as I might, there will be errors, and I know
I have a rocky relationship with my comas. I know by all means, my stuff is not that
good and I would love to know what those spots are so I know what to work on.

A Dance of Flames

Moving her hands in various ways through out this little scene of flames, it starts off with a fiery field of grass in a circle about a foot in front of her. Gently they move like a breeze is pushing pass them, then with an invisible gust of wind the flaming blades of grass swirls up and around to form the shape of a tiger. It’s nearly as tall as the 4’10 ft frame of the one that conjured it. The tiger is facing away from her, who it then turns to face, sitting down, and looking at its master waiting for a signal. Its head tilts to the side and his tail swished back and forth, and a twitch of his ear, which tossed small puffs of fire that flickered out instantly.

After a few moments, with a gesture of her small hands the tiger stands. Opening its mouth wide proceeding into a vicious roar. Flames burst forth and swirl, brushing passed and around the small frame creating a 4’10ft hour-glass shadow inside the flames. Her clothes and hair getting tossed about in the breeze of the fire; swirling up and above her, as the tiger fades from tail to snout as it uses its flame body to create a large bird.

With another wave of her hand and wave of the other, a tree of flames appears. The bird which flies around it a few times, flapping its wings, gracefully lands on the top of the tree. Moving its beak, opening it wide as though holding out the long note of a tune; little notes slowly move out of its beak. Unfolding its wings it moves to take off but is drawn back as if there were a drain between the bird and the tree. They swirl and distort, sucked into a tightly compacted egg shaped ball of flames.

A detailed red leaf then appears below the egg. Rolling off the leaf it lands on another, the previous leaf disappears; continuing this pattern till it reaches to roll onto the girl’s hand.

The egg then proceeds to appear to crack, the top half fall to the side of her hand, disappears into her palm. A snake, small at first, soon grows. Its head about the size of hers; bursts from the egg to coil around her feet and then spiraling crawls up her body, its head atop hers.

After a moment of the snake looking around, it lifts its head, opening its jaw as though to attack and bite, vibrantly it bursts into millions of blazing petals; gently they float to the ground.

With many petals still in the air, she bows her head and the rest of the fiery petals swirl up and absorb themselves into her body. After they have all disappeared, she lifts her head back up.

Nekodra’s cheeks redden like the back of her short red hair tipped dark; one of her long black bangs falls to cover one of her eyes. Bouncing lightly on her toes she walks off the stage, her long black jacket fluttered out behind her, with a small glimpse of a fluffy jet black tail. Sitting down on a nearby bench, lightly tugging at her pants she pulls out a blood lollipop and proceeds to unwrap it and pop it into her mouth, her tail wrapping around and onto her lap. Smiling, she enjoys the rest of the contest, eagerly waiting to see other competitors beautiful acts.

Afterword
This story was written back -let’s see- I believe it was 10th grade. So 2005. For little competition with Oc’s with some friends. The premise was a festival and there was a contest between elementals to do performance incorporating their element into the dance. My little Nekodra won. And yes, Nekodra was born a cat demon, and later was turned into a Vampire. She used to always keep her tail out, but doesn’t anymore, she prefers to stay in a completely humanoid form. But she has a soft spot for fluffy and can occasionally be found secretly hugging or stroking her own tail.
I wonder, does this story paint the picture I want it to? I have this whole visual video in my head of how this performance looks, and I wonder do I describe it well enough that those who aren’t in my head, see a similar image in their mind of this fiery performance?

Just a few after thoughts:
